Lab Tours (Warwick Manufacturing Group and Warwick Bio Analytical Shared Resource Laboratories)

Thursday, Septmber 21, 2023

Conference attendees will have the choice of one of two lab tours within the University of Warwick premises on Thursday evening, after the last technical session.

Warwick Manufacturing Group

Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) is an academic department with the University of Warwick and one of the peer-recognised principle players in the fields of Connected and Autonomous/Intelligent Vehicles and Advanced Manufacturing Techniques in the UK. The Connectivity aspects of WMG research are underpinned by exceptional facilities, amongst others the High Value Manufacturing Catapult-funded, Communications and Sensors Lab in the National Automotive Innovation Centre, including WMG’s 5G core and periphery equipment, enabling the test and development of all aspects of future wireless communications. The key aim of the group is to allow our partners to access a configurable combination of real and synthetic environments and systems to enable testing, prediction, and analysis of devices, subsystems and the emergent behaviours of systems-of-systems in a way that is scalable, efficient in the use of resources, and controllably repeatable.

We can offer a tour of our lab which has state of the art connectivity research equipment in the 5G and beyond space.

Warwick Bio Analytical Shared Resource Laboratories

The Warwick Bio Analytical Shared Resource Laboratories are a spin out from a BBSRC/EPSRC funded synthetic biology centre, WISB (Warwick Integrative Synthetic Biology). They include facilities dedicated to flow cytometry, chromatography, robotics, bioreactors and biomolecular interactions instruments. WISB delivers an integrated, internationally-leading programme of research, innovation and training for synthetic biology. Our community includes researchers from the departments of Life Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, and Education at the University of Warwick. The WISB research programme combines the principles of bioscience, engineering, computer science and physical science in theoretical and experimental synthetic biology research.

For the tour, we will divide into subgroups for rotations through the microscopy, flow cytometry, robotics, and proteomics equipment. Each section will be presented by an experienced technician or lab manager.

Banquet Dinner

Thursday, September 21, 2023

Attendees to ACM NanoCom will attend the banquet dinner at Nailcote Hall. This dinner consists of 3 courses with 4 choices to be chosen from for each course. Nailcote Hall is a premier 4 star Country House Hotel in Warwickshire, built in 1640 just before the start of the English Civil War. Its name is believed to be derived from the Norman French word for armourer. The main building was damaged during the English Civil War by Oliver Cromwell’s troops before their assault on Kenilworth Castle. Over the centuries, the property has been restored and altered into the excellent facilities offered today.
